Online Cardrooms

As of February 2007, the following information is current. Be advised that the Internet will be in constant change.  Links to Web sites and poker game availability could and does change overnight. You should check the companion Web site for this book for updated information and for the latest access to online poker cardrooms. Online poker has been a fast growing industry with many new cardrooms appearing during the past two years. The following list is a sample of some of the major venues and their features. It is not supposed to be comprehensive.

One additional note for Mac users: while most online poker cardrooms would require the user to download software that runs on a Windows platform, it would be possible to  simulate Windows on a Macintosh.

A software package called Virtual PC ® has been made by Connect ix at This will simulate the Windows operating system on Macintosh and will allow the user to run  Windows-based programs.

Many of the software downloads from poker cardrooms have been known to run on a  Macintosh that has used a Windows simulation. However, some trial and error could be required and only a few online cardrooms would officially support the use of Windows simulation software. For Windows users, exact system requirements would vary with the poker cardroom.

As a general rule, you should plan on having at least a Pentium processor and Windows 95 or later installed. The more elaborate poker interfaces would require higher end computers. Before opening real-money accounts, you should experiment with several interfaces in  play money games, to find the ones that would be most comfortable for both you and your computer.
